The Journey Down the River

The Journey down the river.

Timm’s plan – the outline

  • Return to Riverbend
    • Check in with Army of Othamar
    • Check in with (Kids from town)
    • Check in with Blacksmith/Merchant
    • Check in on our ship and missing party members.
      • Three days travel was the expectation. The party would spend a day and a morning travelling the road from Pessac to the River Road and then follow that south to Riverbend.
      • Timm planned on breaking off from the party when they got to the river. He was faster in the water and could potentially get to Stoke-on-Garonde at the same time the party arrived back in Riverbend.
  • Timm will swim downriver to the next town south of Riverbend.
    • Go to local tavern near the docks and find/hire some sailors preferably through a first mate or captain who does not have a ship of their own.
      • Bring sailors north to Riverbend by carriage. Expects to be there within four days of rest of party arriving.

Once ready to leave Riverbend, the party will need to travel on the ship. Timm will act as captain, the hired crew(s) will do the sailing, the party will be there to ward off pirates and irate sailors.

      • Travel downriver at an easy pace. Use the small crew to get to the coast. Then hire a crew with experience on the sea to get from Anawaha to Garmond.
      • Once in Garmond Timm will use his contacts, most likely Henriot, to source a wagon or cart to move the goods he brought back from Riverbend. He will store his goods at the tavern and most likely in the “cellar” area that is just a rough hewn root cellar at this point.
    • The decorations, paintings, statues etc that Timm grabbed for the express purpose of using as decorations in the tavern will be used for that purpose.
      • The party members with items to move off the ship will make their own arrangements and should add them to this story as a response 😊
  • Rivers with their shallow banks and deep channels require a different type of sailor than the ocean and seas and Timm knew it. The ship they commandeered from Riverbend was large for the river but small for the sea. Shade and Sympos had sailed with the Carnival and at least knew their way around a ship, but the rest…Timm knew the crew he hired for the river would most likely not be good for the sea.
  • Stoke-on-Garonde, a day south of Riverbend by river or three days by road, has been known for its ceramics for a thousand years. Plates, bowls, vases, tiles, pipes, shingles and pencils were all produced and known to be of the highest quality. For generations prior to the separation, they were known as the best and their return to Kempin has been met with great enthusiasm by collectors across the world.
    • Using the road travel time from Stoke-on- Garonde to Anawaha was two weeks on foot, one week by carriage and three days by horse.
    • By river departing at dawn on day one meant arrival at sunset on day two.
  • Anawaha a port city straddling the Garonde river a mile north of where it emptied into the sea would be their next stop. Named by a culture that is long forgotten it, like many other cities on the borders of Othamar, had seen recent growth with the return of lost kingdoms and though less than half the size, was the first city of any note to the east of Garmond.
    • Timm will take the crew hired in Stoke-on- Garonde and buy them a night of debauchery at the local whorehouse in Anawaha. Those that don’t partake, if any, drinks at the tavern or if necessary a donation to their preferred charity.
    • He will then find and hire a small crew that can handle coastal sea travel to sail the ship to Garmond.

New Stuff:

  • Garonde: The river that starts in the mountains, runs through Riverbend, south to Stoke-on-Garonde, then to Anawaha and then to the sea. Name is a bastardization of a river in Bordeaux, France.
    • There is probably at least one small town of village on the riverbanks between SoG and Anawaha.
  • Stoke-on-Garonde: A city long known for it’s ceramics. Roughly based on Stoke on Trent in England.
  • Anawaha: Port city at the mouth of the Gironde river. Most of the names of places in the United States are bastardizations of native american. So I thought that a city with a name that seems out of place or “native” might be cool. It’s a bastardization of “Port Town” in Hawaiian.
  • The ship will remain officially registered in Riverbend.
  • If the crew who sails the ship is good, then Timm plans on hiring them, or rather, leasing the ship to them. He will take a 15% cut and they get to do as they will, sans smuggling or illegal shit.
    • If that crew sucked, then Timm will find and hire a crew in Garmond.

One of the first things I want to do for the game, is create a proper map of all the abstractions I've been throwing out there, including everything we've done, where we've gone, and including all the great places and place names you've come up with Mark.  I'll need help making sure I don't miss anything when I create the map!
