The Unfriendly Sewers of Eldermont

He was there to find the yellow-eyed elf and return him, his corpse or his soul to the Goblins of the Wilds. Considering the initial failure, Gujk had been doing well until the rats stopped dying…or rather stopped staying dead when he killed them. The sewers of Eldermont had been his home for the past eleven months. Only recently, just a few weeks after the heroes had left for a great battle had his routine been disrupted.

His home for the last year was becoming more dangerous than the environment outside…the streets and alleys of Eldermont had changed…the world had changed. The rats in the sewers, the dead ones, were causing problems. The live ones were the normal issue. Now, the dead ones that wouldn’t stay dead were another. This last group like to eat anything living, well animals and things like that…not plants…not sure about fish.

Gujk ran through the half-caves and half-constructed sewer system of Eldermont fleeing from the undead swarm of rats. His training was barely adequate. Flipping backwards while spinning, landing safely in a crouched position and launching forward into a full sprint was not enough to leave him unscarred. The claw and bite marks on his ankles and calves gave evidence to his slothfulness.

The street drain just before the bridge was the next way out on his escape route and Gujk was hoping it wasn’t clogged or guarded…and he was in luck. Just a little bit faster than his pursuers, Gujk had a few seconds lead on the foul smelling, rotting carcass version of vermin that chased him.

Gujk climbed up the rusty iron bars that made up the ladder to the inlet for the sewer. At the top of the ladder, he had a bit of time. The undead rodent pursuers didn’t have the capacity to understand the ladder and circled about chirping and squeaking at their prey.

Slowly lifting the lid, Gujk peeked out of the fake tree stump into the chaotic streets of Eldermont.

“You’re very loud.” Said the ash skinned widow’s son, who leaned forward with a hand extended, offering to help him out of the secret sewer entrance/exit. He had seen his visage before when he had been approached by the Darkness…he took the hand.

<widow’s son is what the Goblins of the Wilds call Dark Elves. There are no know references to who the widow is. Ash skinned means half…so half dark elf. It’s Ian, one of T’nas trainee scouts. -MarkSimon>
