Mission 4 Report
Survey Team 13
Objective: Investigate Floating Castle
Team Leader: Cmdr Timm Valorson

The Floating Castle of the Lord of Lilies

Mission: Stories of a floating castle are to be investigated.
• Castle was seen floating on clouds in the vicinity of Fosk, Mirth and Vondace.
• Castle appeared during the day and disappeared as it became night.

Mission Brief: Legend confirmed. The floating Castle of the Lord of Lilies appears over the Valley of Lilies, near the town of Mirth, on the Solstice. When ST13 was present they were offered a chance to enter a contest for the hand of King Reginald’s daughter, Princess Calisa. Valorson was declared victor, but the King did not honor the arrangement. ST13 fled castle. Castle disappeared.

Mission Log:

Survey Team 13 (ST13) travelled north and then east towards Parsons.

Stayed in Parsons overnight. Gathered Intel.
• Spoke with locals and confirmed rumors of a floating castle.
o Locals all referred to it as a fairy tale.
o Local bard gave in depth story about legend of the castle in the clouds King Reginald, the Lord of Lillies, whose daughters hand in marriage was a prize that suitors could compete for in some way.
• Legend says no one ever one until a man named Barnabas used subterfuge and deception and snuck off with the princess.
• Both the princess and Barnabas died in the legend.
• Legend also stated that suitors who failed were thrown off the city walls to plummet to their deaths.

ST13 moved on to Fosk
• Locals confirmed legend of floating city
• Locals informed ST13 of the Valley of Lilies that was nearby and might be associated with floating castle

Proceeded to Valley of the Lilies
• Surveyed and investigated areas.
• Nothing of note other than lilies.

Moved on to Mirth
• Met local who claimed to have seen a castle floating on a cloud when he had been in the Valley of the Lilies on the solstice a few years ago.

Returned to Valley of the Lilies
• Created large signal fire
• Noticed an odd creature flying at a high altitude.
o Lit signal fire
• An hour later a castle floating on clouds appeared and settled over the valley.
• 20 Representatives from the castle flew down on hippogriffs to the Valley of the Lilies.
o Asked ST13 if we were suitors.
o ST13 responded affirmatively.
ST13 was flown up to castle.
• Presented to the King, Queen and a large crowd as suitors.
o ST13 was informed they would have to fight each other to survive or win.
o All who don’t win get thrown off the castle walls.

Aed suggested this was a trick to see if ST13 would betray each other, because no one of false heart was worthy of the princess.
• The King informed Aed he was incorrect.

Valorson suggested they be allowed to see the princess as she was not obviously present.
• The princess was presented.
o She was perfect.

ST13 was ordered to square off against each other and fight.
• ST13 Coordinated a series of distractions and fled the castle.

Retreated to the stables.

Used hipogriffs to escape castle.

• ST13 returned to ground.
• Castle was gone by the time we got to the ground.
• No visible pursuit

ST13 returned to Garamond.

Recommendation: Extreme caution advised. Any further attempts to contact King Reginald or his floating castle should not be done without the ability to fly or survive rapid deceleration trauma from great heights.

Other Notes: Winning the hand of the princess seemed very important when at the castle, almost important enough to betray the mission and ST13. The King stated that he had no problem killing people and that he didn’t mind friends betraying each other. Strong possibility of magic influence.

      Great report!  Dead on details.

For the record, the town names are spelled Mearth, Vondis, and Fosk.  Not sure it is that important to the report, though.

      Thanks, Mark!
