Rebranding Yourself

Questions

The storm raged for seven days and nights. Lightning so frequent, one did not need a torch or lantern. Thunder so loud that even the foundation and walls of Ayrvogh Sirt shook in submission. Vomm could not help but wonder if the Fates were not raging. Was the work they had been doing for the Red Jackal, or really his lieutenant, engendering the wrath of great powers…gods and their ilk?

None of the others seemed inclined to such philosophical inquiries, but nonetheless, the large Giwa pondered such questions on a regular basis. By birth, if not fate, he was destined to find the lost city of his people. A fabled realm that had eluded his parents and grandparents…that had eluded his people for all of their history.

Doubt was not the right word, but Vomm no longer worried about finding the lost city, or his ‘fate’. His fate was his own as much as it was determined. No matter what situation he would find himself in, he would be in charge of his reactions. His time in the Empire of Bone and especially at the stronghold of Legion of the Burning Heart had taught him that much many times over.

Decisions

He was leaving after their next mission…as he made this decision a tension that had always been there seemed to unlock a tightness in his shoulders and neck, allowing him to stand a little taller and to appreciate the release of an all-pervading pain that had burdened him most of his life.

Never since he first left his home had he felt such a release. Perhaps he would stay and continue to work for the Red Jackal and his empire in some manner…he’d been treated fairly, given great responsibility and fair rewards. Vomm smiled for he knew a new stage was coming to his life. He would complete the next mission…for sure they would ask the irregulars to find the next mage needed to cast the great spell.

After they completed that task, they would have what they needed and Vomm could follow his heart. His internal compass was pulling him to the south and west and he knew he must follow…to what, he did not.
