Unloading the ship

Stocking the bar

Rumor had it that Timm and the rest of his crew had returned to Garmond, but Henriot had seen no sign of him yet. Armand had left for a gig a couple of hours ago and dusk was upon the city. A small chuckle slipped past his lips as he considered the work he and Armand had done or more so, why they had done it.

“Why the chuckle?” said a familiar voice coming down the stairs from the second floor.

“How, when…how did you get inside?” Was all Henriot could stammer out.

“I like what you’ve done upstairs. Perhaps I should make you a partner on some level.” Timm changed the subject.

Henriot was too stunned to respond quickly, and so Timm continued, “I think we will need another entrance to the tavern. One that only myself, and my partners, need to know about. You are in charge of this project my friend…I suggest you build out the cellar first…but enough of all this business talk. Where’s Armand playing tonight, I owe you a night on the town as a starter and the bard can always use some friendly support.”

Planning the move

Timm and Henriot spent the evening eating roast mutton, drinking too much, and cheering on Armand, who was actually having a good night. As much as they tried not to talk about work, it kept coming up. Next stages for the tavern, finishing the second floor, getting furniture, and hiring staff. Moving cargo from the docks to the tavern without attracting too much notice intrigued Henriot greatly, but Timm had waved him off when he started to ask about it, indicating they would discuss it later.

The two waited for Armand to finish his set before heading back to the tavern. Stumbling a bit and leaning on each other for support, it took the three twice as long as it should have but they made it back to the tavern where Timm unveiled more of his plan for the tavern. Unload the longship, finish the second floor, decorate and furnish the place, start and finish the cellar and hire staff…in that order.

Henriot suggested they unload the ship at high noon. Going in the middle of the night would attract the attention of the worst sort. Normal business hours, go with two carts, cover the carts with tarps after they’re loaded, move to the tavern quickly, unload, and then return carts. Henriot would take care of the carts and horses.

Where it’s headed:

If anyone wants to add how they got their stuff off the ship when it gets to Garmond, feel free to add it in the comments below. Timm would gladly help Sympos move stuff to the temple he’s building, would listen to whatever crazy idea Shade has, and then decide, and depending on interest, might ask Gabe to create a menu for the tavern.

Here are the ideas floating in my head for what’s next for Timm and his bar friends.

  • For the most part, the transport of goods goes as planned.
  • Timm might, or might not, notice someone watching them
  • The couple that has been walking by and checking the tavern out might happen to be walking by when Timm, Henriot, and Armand are unloading the two carts. They would most likely help and end up getting hired to be the barkeep and barmaid.
  • Henriot’s association with the local thieves/assassins guild will most likely cause some problems.
  • They might help Sympos move stuff to the temple he is building/working on from the longship.
  • The second entrance is between Timm and Henriot and won’t be discussed in front of Armand at this point.
  • Timm will share with Henriot and Armand his version of what happened on their latest mission unless it was considered confidential or secret. If he is sworn to secrecy, then he will not discuss the details but will most likely let some things slip when they’re all drinking together…things like fighting demons, scarecrow creatures, whole towns being destroyed, undead monstrosities, and Timm’s growing hatred of the undead…but nothing specific, just dark and doomish stuff loosely referring to “things that happened in the past”.
  • Timm will not mention their involvement in Riverbend as administrators or whatever it is they are considered there qua the deal with Captain Todd. However, he is to an extent establishing the tavern to be Henriot as the partner in residence, Armand as the entertainment, and the couple to be the barkeep and barmaid.
